Prometheus
Just saw it. Totally loved it.

I thought it was a really fun ride. It had me wondering where they were going to go next and what they'd find pretty much the entire movie. I like that they just casually include ancient alien ideas without bogging the thing down in needless explanation. I also like the technology in the movie, including the alien biological and energy technology. Very understated, but I think less is more when it comes to that kind of thing. Let the audience figure it out for themselves.

I know some religious folks might feel slighted by some of the symbols and lines of dialog throughout, but if so they missed the point entirely. I liked the play between religion and science in the movie, and thought putting the necklace/cross into a container for quarantine was a good symbol. By the end of the film, neither side 'wins' because they're exploring uncharted territory, and neither belief system is prepared for what they find.

[SPOILER] The ending sets up Alien very well. I agree with the android, it doesn't really matter what she finds on the Engineers' home planet. I might be ignorant to some detail in the Alien universe that answers some of my questions, but what do you guys think she'll find when she gets there? I think they'll all have been wiped out, and it will be infested by the alien specie we saw right at the end. Our creators were only going to destroy us so that we couldn't host this new, destructive life form. They were trying to stop us from birthing an alien swarm that would eventually consume the Universe.

[EDIT] This write-up breaks down some of the symbols and mythologies used throughout the story. It's a very interesting read, including a Space Jesus quote from Ridley Scott. After reading this, I don't know whether to believe the Engineers were going to destroy us to correct their mistake, or to stop us from birthing the Alien. http://cavalorn.livejournal.com/584135.html

RE: Prometheus
So you didn't think that the Xenomorph at the end was like the Queen?

Also I know they stated that this planet wasn't the same one from Alien, but then we have to believe that one of those same ships crashed on a different planet with an Engineer stuck in that seat or whatever.

Anyhoo you'll hear how much I enjoyed it anyways tomorrow, but there we some things that were pretty questionable.
