Friday Con Schedule

So pretty much directly after I wrote the previous article for my Thursday schedule Comic Con released the Friday schedule and therefore the planning had to begin. For my final day at The Con (have to leave Friday night because of work on Saturday, so lame) there are some great panels that are going to appear, but if I do it right here’s what will be in store for me.

Friday

Let's face it because of these women I may not make it to any panel.

Community: School Is Back In Session – 10:00-11:00

With most of the actors there this panel is sure to at least be entertaining. The new writers are rumored to be there, but not confirmed so the Q&A about Community’s 4th season may be a little lackluster. There’s been a lot of changes to the making of this show and it’s going to be interesting to see if they even address it. I’m going to probably have to cut out a bit early of this one to catch…

Adult Swim: The Venture Bros – 11:00-12:00

I’m mostly hoping for some give outs here because I’ll take Venture merch anyday. Love the show and with the voice of Dr. Venture and the show’s two creators it could be worth it. If I have to bail on a panel today though it’ll probably be this one.

Movie Review: Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

What does Abraham Lincoln have in common with Buffy Summers, Blade, and Van Helsing? Apparently vampire hunting. Yes, according to novelist turned screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith (The Hard Times of RJ Berger) our nation’s 16th president slew the undead as a young man and even while he was leading this great nation as the president. Director Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted) and producer Tim Burton (Edward Scissor Hands, Dark Shadows) seem to agree. Surely a film would have to be a success with names as big as these involved right? Right??

After witnessing a vampire murder his mother, a young Abraham Lincoln (Benjamin Walker) makes it his mission to get revenge. But when he finally works up the courage to kill the man who took his mother from him he is horrified to find out that that man is in fact an undead blood sucker. With the help of the mysterious Henry Sturgess (Dominic Cooper) Lincoln survives the encounter and learns the ways of vampire hunting.

One uninspired montage later and Henry sends Lincoln out to begin dealing bloody justice. Along the way he marries the lovely Mary Todd (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), reunites with old friend Will Johnson (Anthony Mackie), and makes a new friend in Joshua Speed (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s Jimmi Simpson). He also runs into the evil vampire Adam (Rufus Sewell) who is the leader of the vampires in the south. With the help of his newfound friends Abraham Lincoln endeavors to rid the United States of the vampire problem.

Vampire Hunter Featurette

This ‘Waltz of Death’ featurette from Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (releasing this Friday) is just a small look into one of the fight scenes. This movie may blow (high likelihood), but it still looks fun (ax fighting scenes look good) and I’m down to sneak into it after another movie. Hell I may even pay for it. Not like it’s a Nicolas Cage movie. Not donating into that blow/prostitute fund any more than I have. Which begs the question; will you be seeing this movie?

Ray Bradbury, Sci-Fi Legend Passes

RIP Ray Bradbury 1920-2012

Ray Bradbury, 91 (1920-2012), sci-fi author and visionary passed yesterday evening. An amazing mind that brought us the works of Fahrenheit 451, The Martian Chronicles, & Something Wicked This Way Comes. Personally I’ve only read The Martian Chronicles and was pretty blown away and intend on reading that again along with his other works. Along with the many rewards he has received, an award named after him, he also has an asteroid and a park named after him. He will never be forgotten and thank you Mr. Bradbury for all you gave to our culture.

What Is This New Devilry?!

Why it’s just The Lord of the Rings lego game of course and only a decade later. Like it really matters though. Once this trailer hit the web it spread like the darkness from Mordor. Cool first glimpse I must say even though I’ve never played one of these lego games. Apparently this one is going to be more ‘adventurey’ and ‘puzzley’ than other games in the lego series. A LOTR games is always welcome especially when the time and right touch has been put into it. AND please hold the Lego-las puns you a-holes.

James Bond #…I Lost Count

I’m a huge James Bond fan. No doubt about it. I grew up watching it with my dad and probably has had more of an effect on me than I realize. I mean I need some reason to explain the drinking habits and my life with women. I will be the first to admit that I think there are more bad movies than good ones as well. Other things I will admit about the series is that 1) Sean Connery will always be ‘James Bond’ in my mind, 2) Goldeneye was awesome, but Pierce Brosnan was almost as bad as Timothy Dalton  in the long run, and 3) Natalia from Goldeneye is my favorite Bond girl. There’s just something about Russians. I probably would have been a spy during the Cold War if a hot Russian dame was involved. I digress. Just check out the trailer for Bond #23, #24, or maybe #22. I really can’t remember. Anyways thoughts on this James Bond and who’s your favorite Bond girl?

Loot Of The Week – Barbie May Make My Collection

I never thought it would happen, but I may be buying a barbie doll that isn’t for my kid sister. And no I don’t buy Barbie’s for my van because let’s face it there are less expensive dolls out there and that just hurts the budget (just kidding of course, seriously when will they invent sarcasm text). Here it is though people, the Katniss Everdeen Barbie doll. If you didn’t see this coming then you don’t belong in marketing. Like many bloggers have already pointed out, our hero from The Hunger Games probably would not approve of this doll, but the Capitol would be all over this especially when she’s slutting it out on the marketing campaign in the later books. Honestly though this figure looks pretty bad ass and Barbie struck the bulls-eye with this one. If they make a Peeta doll however, I will do more horrible things to it than Sid from Toy Story. Gawd he was awful.

Disney Just Face It & Hire Some Fans

While reading ‘Princess of Mars’, the first novel in the John Carter series, I’m beginning to hate Disney for how they marketed the movie. Apparently I’m not the only one either because numerous fans have made alternate trailers and almost all of them have been better…especially this one. Disney you obviously don’t need a ton of advice, but when it comes to marketing Sci-Fi you’re god awful. So just go ahead and hire some of these fans.

Heir To The Balcony: The Hunger Has Begun

The studios were smart this week and really didn’t release anything worth mentioning as we see the release of The Hunger Games. The movie that topped the last Twilight film for most pre-sell tickets ever sold. I’d like to go see this tomorrow morning, but who knows if I’ll be able to get tickets. This movie is going to do so well because of it’s following by both sexes in the 14-30 age range. Not just females who have no decided that when someone watches you through your window while you sleep is sexy. Let’s get to the pre-release analysis.

The Hunger Games

Likely Statler & Waldorf Line: S -”You know I lost a competition once.” W-”Yea? What was the punishment?” S -”Life in this balcony with you!” Dohohohoho

There’s not much from this movie that I’ve seen in the previews or that I’ve read about it that seems to have upset anyone. A feat very hard to considering the following. Just ask Michael Bay as of lately with the TMNT franchise. This notion is also holding true in the reviews from the critics and has a current Rotten Tomatoes score of 90%. I will say I’m not a huge fan of Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique from First Class), but this does seem like a pretty picture perfect role for her. Plus Stanley Tucci as Caesar Flickerman is definitely an ideal as this character. So what’s it’s one flaw? (And I’m stretching here) How bout Lenny Kravitz as Cinna? I mean that’s a pretty awesome character to be played by someone who shouldn’t be acting. Oh well if that’s all I can say bad about then clearly it’s going to be great.
